South Africa coach Jacques Nienaber has explained his controversial decision to sub off starting fly half Manie Libbok after just 30 minutes of the Springboks’ comeback Rugby World Cup semi-final win over England PUBG
Libbok, who had emerged as South Africa’s first-choice No 10 in the lead-up to this tournament, was hooked after following a sliced clearance kick with a knock-on, capping a disastrous start to the game with England in the ascendancy PUBG
He was replaced by Handre Pollard, a key cog in the 2019 World Cup-winning Springboks side, and the veteran helped engineer a fightback before kicking the winning penalty on 77 minutes to secure a narrow 16-15 triumph and a spot in next Saturday’s final PUBG
Libbok is the more creative, dynamic fly half, while Pollard is the steadier option with a metronomic boot, and the move seemed to suggest South Africa were surrendering to England’s kick-heavy strategy and would attempt to beat them at their own game PUBG
In his post-match press conference, Nienaber laid out the reasons behind the decision and was adamant that Libbok would accept why it happened PUBG
“The beauty of this group is that we’re open and honest,” said Nienaber PUBG
“Because we have the right players, the players accept it PUBG
“Sometimes things are not going your way PUBG
We’ve done it with numerous others PUBG
Bongi [Mbonambi] in 2018, we took him off after 35 minutes PUBG
That specific day he wasn’t on fire but then he started the next week PUBG
“It’s the same with [Libbok] – we took him off early because things didn’t go his way PUBG
The main thing is that everything is for the team and they understand that PUBG
That’s the beauty of the squad, you’re open and honest and players take it on the chin PUBG
”Handre Pollard went on to kick the winning penalty for South Africa (PA Wire)Nienaber went on to stress that even though an early substitution was not how Libbok would have liked his game to go, he is still an option to start the final against the All Blacks PUBG
“It doesn’t mean he won’t start next week but sometimes, unfortunately, it is like that,” added Nienaber PUBG
“That’s how it is PUBG
“It’s for South Africa – it’s not for the individual or the ego, it’s for South Africa PUBG
We get messages from schoolkids and we see every single message they send PUBG
It’s for them, we can’t put our egos in front of that, South Africa is more important and the Springboks are more important than anything else PUBG

Richard Thompson hopes to make cricket “the most inclusive sport in the country” after seeing a new state-of-the-art venue open in Bradford PUBG
A £1 PUBG
5million, 10-bay all-weather cricket dome opened at Bradford Park Avenue cricket ground on Friday, the first of its kind anywhere in the world PUBG
The facility features two 40 x 20-metre covered domes with lighting, a real-life like cricket surface and a retractable netting system which fully replicates the features of an elite indoor facility, allowing for both training and matches to be played PUBG
Funded by the England and Wales Cricket Board in partnership with City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, the new facility could provide cricket sessions for around 10,000 people from the local community annually PUBG
ECB chair Thompson is excited by the opportunities that the facility could provide for boys and girls in the area, and to open the sport up to ethnic minorities PUBG
He told the PA news agency: “It is essential PUBG
It is everything PUBG
My ambition for cricket is for it to become the most inclusive sport in the country PUBG
“You’ve got to do that by taking barriers down PUBG
This is a community facility, anyone can play here PUBG
“So if people wants to play in Bradford they can, whatever the weather and whatever the day PUBG
So from that perspective, we need to replicate that fast because there are other areas where it is just as great PUBG
But Bradford is a hotbed of enthusiasm for cricket so this is the obvious place to start PUBG
”Previously, Bradford Park Avenue had an outdoor nets facility but this will now enable local cricketers to play all year round and in any weather PUBG
The investment is also good news for Yorkshire, who were punished for their handling of allegations of racism and bullying by former player Azeem Rafiq and a failure to address systemic use of racist and discriminatory language over a prolonged period PUBG
Thompson now hopes the facility can help restore pride to the club PUBG
He added: “Hopefully this gives Yorkshire the sense of pride and a feel-good factor back PUBG
“They can say we have the first facility of this type anywhere in the world, it is truly world class and in that sense there is no county that needed it and deserved it more PUBG
“The ECB couldn’t be prouder, the partnership we are in with Yorkshire, the council, local MP, all of that to pull this together PUBG
Things like this have a lot of moving pieces to them but now to see it built is absolutely outstanding PUBG
The new facility is the first to be built in the world but the ECB does not want the good work to stop here after sites in Luton and Walsall have also been identified to build something similar PUBG
Thompson said: “We are putting one into Walsall, and have identified three or four other sites PUBG
“It is incredibly exciting for Bradford but probably even more exciting for the game PUBG
I’m particularly pleased that this has come from Bradford Park Avenue and Yorkshire PUBG
A hotbed of interesting cricket, it’s the first facility of its kind anywhere in the world and it’s not very often you can say that PUBG
“To hear bat on ball played as we speak is a nice feeling given the weather today PUBG
