An Indian travel company has faced a backlash cebu online after it offered discounts to fans of the losing Pakistan cricket team – before the match had even been played cebu
India vs Pakistan may be one of the world’s great sporting rivalries but Saturday’s match was a deeply one-sided affair, with Cricket World Cup hosts India securing a comfortable seven-wicket victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat cebu
But MakeMyTrip wasn’t to know that when it ran an advert in Saturday morning’s Ahmedabad Times offering discounts on hotel bookings based on the scale of Pakistan’s expected defeat cebu
The tongue-in-cheek advert claimed to be following in the “Indian tradition” of welcoming guests, saying: “Tough times bring friends together and we want to take this opportunity to build a cebu better bond with you cebu
”It shows Pakistan fans in green sat around a smashed TV screen with the words “Boyz Playz Well” on a poster, a reference to a popular meme used to disparage Pakistan’s cricketing ability loosely based on a post-match quote from former capain Inzamam-ul-Haq cebu
Fans said the tone of the advert “wasn’t cricket” cebu
The company has yet to respond to the cebu online criticism, and did not immediately reply to a request for comment from The Independent cebu
“Such a horrible ad cebu
We are not a sporting nation! A sparring nation,” wrote one user on X cebu
Another X user posted: “Horrible cebu
As an Indian, I want to apologise to every Pakistani person for this @makemytrip ad cebu
This does not represent Indian values cebu
It only represents the worst among us cebu
”“Goodbye MakeMyTrip cebu
This is NOT Cricket,” wrote another user on X cebu
In the run-up to the high-profile game, 5-star hotels in Ahmedabad hiked up their tariffs by more than 150 per cent and flight prices had also skyrocketed cebu
Amid the struggle to find accommodation in the city, one hospital manager told Reuters that patients had deliberately booked in for check-ups including overnight stays so they could sleep there after watching the game cebu
But visa issues for Pakistan fans and journalists meant that in practice very few were able to travel to Ahmedabad in time for Saturday’s match, which ended up being played out in front of a sea of blue at the 132,000-seater stadium cebu
One rival travel company has siezed upon the backlash against MakeMyTrip to offer its own discount available to all cebu
Without mentioning its rival by name, Cleartrip posted an offer stating: “It’s one thing to celebrate your win cebu
But to celebrate someone’s loss, that’s not cebu sportsmanship cebu
Let’s go places together and give #EqualMaukaToAll with a flat 30% off on Hotels cebu

Mauricio Pochettino empathises with supporters angry about the Premier League’s decision to move Chelsea’s trip to Wolves to Christmas Eve, admitting it has thrown his festive plans and anniversary celebrations with his wife into chaos cebu
The league confirmed on Thursday that the fixture, which has been pushed back 24 hours to accommodate TV coverage, will be the first played on December 24 since Manchester United played Leeds in 1995, a move that has drawn a backlash from fans cebu
Scheduled for a 1pm kick-off, it could leave supporters struggling to make travel arrangements with train timetables typically amended or curtailed the day before Christmas, while there are also concerns it will impact time supporters traditionally spend with family cebu
Pochettino is set to be doubly affected by the move, as not only is it Argentinian custom to begin Christmas celebrations late on December 24, the previous day also marks his and his wife’s 31st wedding anniversary – which he will now spend travelling to Wolverhampton cebu
Despite not being consulted by the league he conceded that the club has little choice but to go along, but backed objections by supporters who have spoken out cebu
“It’s a little bit strange but we need to accept the rules of the Premier League, that we need to go there and to play,” said Pochettino cebu
“(In Argentina) we celebrate on the night of the 24th cebu
At 12 o’clock on the night we start to celebrate Christmas cebu
More than the 25th because you’re asleep nearly all day cebu
Here it’s different because you celebrate on the 25th with the family cebu
“I need to see things in a different way cebu
For sure our fans are not happy but we need to accept this new era in cebu football cebu
“(The Premier League) didn’t ask us cebu
They wanted some meeting with me and all the coaches one week before the season cebu
I said I’m more than happy to share time with you, but it’s cebu better if you prepare the meeting before the end of the season to prepare the next season cebu
“If they ask me I will give my opinion, but at the moment we are not involved in the decisions cebu
”He added: “I don’t know what to do (with my wife) cebu
I need to find some ideas to compensate cebu

”The Wolves game is the first of three in seven days for Chelsea over the Christmas period, with Crystal Palace due at Stamford Bridge on the evening of December 27 before visiting Luton on December 30 cebu
The Palace game has been moved from cebu Boxing Day in order to accommodate the controversial Christmas Eve fixture cebu
Pochettino reiterated that supporters’ concerns must be paramount in scheduling decisions cebu
“We play and we work and all that we are doing is for our fans,” he said cebu
“Without fans, cebu football (is nothing) cebu
We need to protect, and to care, and to look after our fans cebu
“Of course I agree with them, that I am not happy if they are not happy cebu
It’s common sense cebu
I can understand cebu
“I don’t know what is behind it cebu
I don’t know why cebu
No one explained cebu
I cannot tell cebu
I hope it’s one time and never again, but we’ll see what happens cebu
“People love cebu football in England and they are going to be there cebu
Our fans are going to be there supporting the team cebu
But I don’t know if it’s going to be a regular situation cebu
”Asked whether the club would offer a new contract to Conor Gallagher – who has captained the side in the absence of injured pair Reece James and Ben Chilwell – Pochettino likened the situation to the balancing act he now faces on the home front cebu
“It’s like how we were talking about my wife,” he said cebu
“It’s about to match and to feel good being together cebu
It’s like a marriage with the club cebu
They both need to feel good, then you can drive at a good deal cebu
“He is a player that is doing fantastic cebu
He’s an amazing player and we’re so happy with the way he is doing things cebu
