Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali could be involved in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Wolves despite being handed a 10-month ban lodibet
The Italian lodibet Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed on Thursday that the 23-year-old had been suspended until next season after agreeing a plea bargain as part of an investigation into illegal lodibet betting activity lodibet
However, Newcastle say they are yet to be officially informed of the ban, which is yet to be ratified by world governing body Fifa and, as it stands, the £55m summer signing from AC Milan was due to travel to the Midlands on Friday afternoon with the rest of the squad lodibet
Magpies head coach Eddie Howe said: “It’s a difficult one because we haven’t had official confirmation as a lodibet football club yet lodibet
“We’ve heard the news, the statement, but we haven’t had anything from the Italian authorities at the moment, so we’re in limbo, really, waiting for that official confirmation to come through lodibet
”Asked if there was a chance the Italy international could be involved at Molineux, Howe added: “Yes, I think there’s a high chance again that he could be available for us lodibet
“I still think there are a few things that have to happen before the ban is imposed, so let’s see lodibet
”I think there's a high chance again that he could be available for usEddie Howe on Sandro TonaliThe Italy international was also fined 20,000 euros and will have to undergo eight months of therapy as well as carrying out a series of public appearances lodibet
Tonali found himself at the centre of a probe during this month’s international break into breaches of lodibet betting rules and was alleged to have wagered on games involving former clubs Brescia and Milan during his spells with them lodibet
Agent Giuseppe Riso has claimed Tonali is living with a “gambling addiction” and the Magpies have vowed to support him as he attempts to deal with that, but as it stands he remains available for selection at a time when Howe’s midfield resources have been depleted by a back injury which will sideline Elliot Anderson for eight weeks, while Jacob Murphy is awaiting a verdict on the shoulder he dislocated against Dortmund lodibet
(Getty Images)The Magpies boss, who will be without striker Alexander Isak following a recurrence of a groin problem, said: “At the moment, he’s travelling with us lodibet
We’re preparing as if he’s fit and available to play lodibet
”In the longer term, Howe knows Tonali faces a difficult spell on the sidelines – the club does not yet know whether he will be able to train with his team-mates – and one which will have to be carefully managed lodibet
He said: “Certainly with Sandro’s situation, if he is ultimately banned for that length of time, he’s going to have really difficult moments within that timeframe, a lot of attention on him initially, and that’s a difficult situation for him lodibet
“But then no doubt there’ll be a period where it’s just training – wherever he trains – and no game, and that’s very difficult for any player to adjust to, especially when they’re fit and able to play, so that’s going to be a difficult one lodibet
“The communication lodibet between us, me and my coaching staff and him, is going to be hugely important lodibet

England’s excruciating World Cup campaign took another turn for the worse as they slumped to 156 all out in their must-win match against Chris Silverwood’s Sri Lanka lodibet
Knowing defeat in Bengaluru would leave them with one win in five and end any realistic hope of reaching the semi-finals, they batted calamitously and were rounded up in just 33 lodibet
2 overs of self-inflicted pain lodibet
Ben Stokes top-scored with 43 but even he barely laid a glove on the opposition, looking short of fluency throughout a 73-ball stay lodibet
Six players were dismissed in single figures, with Adil Rashid’s comical run out at the non-striker’s end summing up a shoddy performance lodibet
England’s increasingly confusing selection continued as they dropped rising star Harry Brook, leaving them with a conspicuously ageing side comprised entirely of thirtysomethings for the first time ever in one-day cricket lodibet
With up-and-coming seamer Gus Atkinson also benched, Liam Livingstone – who turned 30 in August – was youngest player on the teamsheet and they batted like a side long past their peak lodibet
They now face the embarrassment of being ousted from the tournament they won four years ago by Silverwood, the man who was supposed to lead England in India before being sacked after the Ashes debacle of 2021/22 lodibet
Things began with a brief burst of positivity, openers Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow taming the new ball sufficiently to plunder 45 in 39 balls lodibet
With nine boundaries in the first six overs, there was an early hint of optimism lodibet
But that was shattered by the introduction of old rival Angelo Mathews, called up as an injury replacement just a couple of days ago and embarking on his first ODI spell in three-and-a-half years lodibet
It took the 36-year-old just three deliveries to get back in the groove, Malan caught behind for 28 chasing a cutter lodibet
Mathews, who starred when Sri Lanka beat England at Headingley in the 2019 group stages, was involved again in the crucial dismissal of Joe Root lodibet
Root had just three to his name when he chopped to point and set off for a single, turning to race back once Bairstow dug his heels in at the non-striker’s end lodibet
Mathews picked up and threw in one swift movement, leaving Kusal Mendis to obliterate the stumps as Root dived in vain lodibet
The errors kept coming, Bairstow reaching 30 before a cross-batted swat at Kasun Rajitha plonked straight to mid-on lodibet
Stokes dug a defensive trench in an attempt to halt the Sri Lankan momentum, but his rearguard was undermined as Lahiru Kumara picked off Jos Buttler swishing to slip and Livingstone lbw lodibet
With just 17 overs down they were 85 for five and circling the drain lodibet
Stokes went on the attack muscling some boundaries despite struggling for timing, but lost two more partners as Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes fed catches to backward point lodibet
When Stokes dragged a pull down deep-midwicket’s throat, England’s hopes of an unlikely revival went with him, but there was another nadir still to come lodibet
Rashid was backing up at the bowler’s end when Mendis took a Maheesh Theekshana wide down the leg side, spotted the chance of an opportunistic dismissal and threw down the stumps from 25 yards lodibet
It was a shambolic way to go and entirely in keeping with England’s demeanour over the past month lodibet
Theekshana had Mark Wood stumped to complete the job, putting Sri Lanka in complete control lodibet
